
DRUG FREE KASHMIR CAUSE
CAUSE has been Sectioned GRANT-IN-AID FROM THE MINISTRY OF SOCIAL JUSTICE & EMPOWERMENT UNDER THE SCHEME OF PREVENTION OF ALCOHOLISM AND SUBSTANCE (DRUGS) ABUSE, National Action Plan for Drug Demand Reduction (NAPDDR) for Drug De- addiction Centre, Bajwan Tral Pulwama.
CAUSE is working on Drug Free Kashmir. We are working on three dimensions of the problem:
1. Working with target population i.e. drug addicts.
2. Drug de-addiction awareness programs with Youth / Colleges / Schools and community-based programs.
3. Working with policymakers.
Counseling programs with Drug addict Groups:
CAUSE is having a network in drug addicts groups. We take counseling sessions in addict groups for motivating them for treatment.
We have organized many awareness seminars in different Colleges / Schools of Kashmir.
26th June 2010: A Celebration of Hope and Healing; An initiative to make Drug Free Kashmir by CAUSE at convocation complex, Kashmir University.
On 26th June 2010 CAUSE organized a seminar, which is international drug de addiction day, a seminar on the theme “A Celebration of hope and healing, an initiative for drug free Kashmir,” in collaboration with the University of Kashmir. The venue was convocation complex, the University of Kashmir were students, teachers, professors/doctors / civil society members/police officials / principals/bureaucrats, honorable vice chancellor of KU and other higher officials of state Govt. were present. An audience of about 1450 participants was present on the occasion.
27th June 2010: Signature campaign in Lal chowk:
CAUSE organized a signature campaign at the center of the city at Lal chowk were around 800 people signed the banner and took a pledge that they will fight against the menace of drug addiction.
26th June 2011: “Drug Addiction - Lest We Lose another Generation” An initiative to Make Drug Free Kashmir:
It was a historical event of Kashmir when CAUSE conducted drug awareness programs through poster exhibition, musical programs and street plays in the center of the city at Lal chowk. It was after 20 years such an event was organized in Kashmir especially at Ganta Ghar, Lal chowk (according to newspapers).
27th June 2011: “Drug Addiction - Lest We Lose another Generation” An initiative to Make Drug Free Kashmir at convocation complex, KU:
CAUSE on 27th June 2011 organized a seminar with the theme “Drug Addiction- Lest We Lose another Generation” An initiative to Make Drug Free Kashmir, in collaboration with the University of Kashmir. The venue was of the seminar was convocation complex University of Kashmir were students, teachers, professors doctors / civil society members/police officials/ principals/ bureaucrats were present. Honorable Minister of social welfare Ms. Sakina Itoo was the chief guest and Vice-chancellor of KU and other higher officials of state Govt. were among the people present. Around 1800 participants from 32 colleges of the valley were present on the occasion.
Working with policymakers:
We are in contact with State Govt./policy makers to frame strong laws against drug trafficking and poppy cultivation in Kashmir as there are many loopholes in drug policy in the state.
